What makes our patch unique?
Our pumpkin patch may look a little different from others, and that’s because we grow our pumpkins in rows with plastic roll cover, a method we use for effective weed management. As a 100% organic farm, we don’t use pesticides or herbicides on our fields. Without the use of typical weed-killing products, controlling weeds naturally is essential to growing strong and healthy pumpkin plants.
What truly sets us apart is our practice of growing complementary crops between our pumpkins. After the pumpkin season ends, our patch becomes home to our cows throughout the Fall, Winter, and Spring. These crops provide valuable forage to feed our cows through the end of Fall. During the summer and early fall, our herd enjoys "summer camp" at the pastures in the Finger Lakes National Forest, managed by the Hector Grazing Association.
This sustainable approach helps us maintain healthy soil and crops, while also supporting our animals with natural, nutritious feed throughout the year.
