About our Cows

Breed: Our beef heard consists primarily of Angus/Devon and Hereford/Devon crossbreeds.  Angus and Hereford are both well-known beef breeds.  The Devon breed is another quality beef breed that is known for a smaller frame and efficient growth on grass pastures and hay.

Quality of Life:  At our farm, we prioritize the well-being of our beef herd, ensuring they live a stress-free life — something we all wish for! From birth, our calves stay with their mothers, nursing as nature intended. They are never separated from their mothers for at least nine months, and in many cases, they stay together for their entire lives.

Our herd enjoys the freedom to live outside year-round, just as they prefer. They can graze and browse at their leisure, seeking shade during the heat or shelter from the cold and wind. They always have access to clean, fresh water to keep them healthy and hydrated.

In the summer, we even send our cows to “summer camp”! Our herd spends the season on a vast 70-acre pasture within the Finger Lakes National Forest, managed by the Hector Grazing Association. This natural, local habitat offers them plenty of space to roam, forage, or simply rest under a shade tree with their calves. When fall arrives, our herd returns home to roam our pastures along Route 96, where we continue to feed them our organic hay until the next summer.

100% Grass Fed: We believe in feeding our cows only grass—100% of the time. High-quality grass and a diverse range of forages are essential for optimal growth and flavorful meat, which is why we take great care in selecting the best for our herd.

Did you know cows have four stomachs? This unique digestive system allows them to efficiently convert grass, clovers, and other forages into the energy they need for growth. By letting them graze naturally, we ensure they get the most from their diet.

The benefits of 100% grass-fed beef are significant: it has a richer, more complex flavor profile, higher mineral content, and increased levels of CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) and Omega-3 fatty acids. Plus, grass-fed beef contains less total fat, making it a healthier choice for you and the environment.
