About Our Chickens

We are now offering pasture-raised meat chicken! These birds are owned, raised and cared for by our own Jason Carpenter at Wideawake Ranch. The chicks start out in a brooder pen (nursery for chicks to keep them safe and warm) in the barn here at the farm. Once the chicks are strong enough to live outside, they are moved to pasture at Jason’s homestead just up the road. They live in a mobile chicken shelter that offers them plenty of fresh air while providing shade and shelter. Shelter is very important especially while the birds are small and young, as they make prime targets for prey. Twice a day the shelter is moved to a different section of the pasture so the chickens have access to fresh grass to explore.  In this process chickens have the ability to search for bugs and worms for protein and have access to fresh water and all-natural non-GMO chicken feed from a local feed store.

All our chicken is processed locally.

The approximate dressed weight of our chicken is 3-5 lbs.
